Hi, welcome to a new segment of This Week’s Talking Points. In today’s segment, we look at some extremely significant news of the week such as WhatsApp finally adding a recall feature, the Google Pixel display issues and Amazon Key delivery system. So, let’s get started:
WhatsApp has Added a recall Message Feature
WhatsApp is rolling out a new feature that will allow you to recall messages you have sent. We all have been there, sending a message to the wrong person or even a typo or a missing word and would like to recall the message. This will allow you to recall message from everyone and they will get a notification that the message has been deleted.
This feature is rolling out now and not to everyone at once, so be patient if you don’t have access to it. Also, you and the recipient will need to have the latest version of WhatsApp. This means you will only be able to recall just some of the messages as some people have a habit of hanging to old WhatsApp versions.
To recall a message, use the following steps:
- Open WhatsApp and go to the chat containing the message you wish to delete.
- Tap and hold the message > choose Delete from the menu. Optionally, select more messages to delete multiple messages at once.
- Tap Delete > Delete for Everyone.
Google Pixel XL Continues to Struggle with Display Issues
Google continues to struggle with display issues on its latest Pixel offering – Google Pixel 2. Most of these problems are limited to the larger variant XL only whose displays were supplied by LG and not the smaller Pixel variant whose displays were supplied by Samsung. It’s widely accepted that Samsung makes the best smartphone displays in the market. Samsung also supplied the display for iPhone X that will be available as from next month.
According to BGR, these display issues ranges from screen burn-in, poor color accuracy among others. Google is investigating and hopefully these problems will be fixed with an over the air update in the coming weeks. These problems are a big blow to the relatively young line of Pixels which were introduced last year. The Pixel line has the best camera and receives timely Android updates from Google. It already has Android 8 and you can be almost certain it will get both Android 9 and 10 before any other smartphone out there.
Amazon Key System – Allow Amazon to unlock your door
Amazon has introduced a new product known as Amazon Key Services. This allows Amazon delivery personnel to unlock the door of your house and put your packages inside instead of leaving outside.
It’s compromised of an app, home security camera and a smart lock. This smart lock will be opened by delivery personnel by scanning their package to confirm delivery. You can monitor everything using the security camera by watching the feed through the app. This feature is available for $250 to only prime members at least for the time being.
“Amazon Key gives customers peace of mind knowing their orders have been safely delivered to their homes and are waiting for them when they walk through their doors.”
Peter Larsen, Amazon’s head of delivery technology.
It is not limited to amazon deliveries only. You can also allow other people inside your house such as cleaning crew or even your guests.
That’s it for this week’s talking points and have a lovely day. Thank you.
